Short Bio:

I studied computer science at Clausthal University of Technology in Germany, where I received my Diploma degree in 2009. During my studies, I regularly participated in the yearly German-Polish workshop ICOLE on computational biology, scheduling and machine learning in Lessach, Austria, and I spent one term at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. After graduating, I became a research assistant in Clausthal, working in the state-funded collaborative research programme 'IT Ecosystems' about complex and heterogeneous distributed computer systems. In April 2010, I joined the CITEC in Bielefeld, and participated in the research project 'Learning Feedback in Intelligent Tutoring Systems' (FIT) within the DFG priority programme 1527 'Autonomous Learning'. I successfully defended my PhD thesis in May 2015 and continued as a postdoc researcher at CITEC, contributing to the large-scale project 'Cognitive Service Robotics Apartment', as well as the industry transfer project 'SO-Pro' within the 'It's OWL' research network until July 2016. I am currently a Senior Data Scientist at Resolto.

Research interests:

My interests lie in the fields of intelligent data analysis and machine learning, focusing on (dis)similarity-based dimensionality reduction, clustering, and classification algorithms, as well as their real-world application. My aim is to improve and develop methods to process complex data by utilizing concepts of computational intelligence and drawing inspiration from human cognition. In this context, I am especially interested in the (structural) representation of information during the artificial learning process, an aspect which I consider essential for the integration of cognitive principles into data analysis tools.

Research Projects:

March 2012 to March 2015 (as assistent researcher):
Learning Feedback in Intelligent Tutoring Systems (FIT), DFG priority programme 1527 'Autonomous Learning'

April 2015 to July 2015 (as postdoc researcher):
The Cognitive Service Robotics Apartment as Ambient Host (CSRA), CITEC Large-Scale Project LSP-01

August 2015 to July 2016 (as postdoc researcher):
Selbstoptimierte Zustandsüberwachung für die Prognose von Fehlzuständen für Windkraftanlagen (SO-Pro), transfer project in the 'It's OWL' network

Awards:

Best Student Paper Award at ESANN 2014 (as first author)

Best Student Paper Award at ESANN 2015 (as contributing author)

Best Poster Award at NC² Workshop in GCPR 2015 (as first author)

Hobbies:

I enjoy music, films, games and other media, and occasionally make some music myself. I play keyboards in a local cover band called City Jam (http://www.city-jam.de).
