Conference on sports diagnostics and coaching held at the Cluster of Excellence CITEC
50 researchers from the fields of psychology and sports science met on 4–5 May 2017 in the CITEC Building to discuss methods for honing athletic performance. In addition to this, they also addressed topics ranging from diagnostics and motor learning to memory and sports psychology. Another conference topic was about how mentally imagining movements can help to improve physical ability.

CITEC research group Neurocognition and Action – Biomechanics hosted the symposium. The research group is headed by Professor Dr. Thomas Schack. In the 18 talks given at the conference, experts from around the world shared their knowledge of how customized diagnostics and coaching can be used to support professional athletes.
The conference consisted of three thematic blocks, including “Memory and Expertise” and “Measuring and Evaluating Brain Waves.” One talk, for example, was about internalized tactics in soccer, while another looked at pretending to change direction as a tactical diversion in basketball.
