CITEC researchers invited as experts at congress on demography

CITEC researchers Professor Dr. Helge Ritter and Professor Dr. Stefan Kopp have been invited as experts to a congress on demography (Zukunftskongress Demographie) organised by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research with the title ‘Bringing technology to life’ (Technik zum Leben bringen). This congress will take place on 21 and 22 October in Berlin.

Professor Kopp will be speaking on the first day of the congress in a panel discussion about research and innovation for demographic change. Other participants include Dr. Helge Neuner (Volkswagen AG), Dr. Christine Thomas (Federal Ministry of Education and Research), Professor Dr. Wolfram Burgard (Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg) and Dr. Ralf Koeppe from the company KUKA Labs. On the same day Kopp will lead a workshop on ‘Motivated Interaction: Empathy and Emotions’ together with Maria Schinkmann (VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik). In this meeting he will present the CITEC research project VASA. In this study, CITEC and the v. Bodelschwingh Foundation Bethel are working on a virtual contact partner that can be personalised, which can support senior citizens and people with developmental disabilities in everyday tasks.

Professor Dr. Helge Ritter, Coordinator of the Cluster of Excellence Cognitive Interaction Technology is giving a talk on interactional research for everyday use on the second day of the congress. The neuroinformatics professor is one of the leading experts on robotics in Germany.

The congress is part of the Year of Science 2013, ‘The Demographic Opportunity’ (Wissenschaftsjahres 2013 ‘Die demografische Chance’). In workshops, talks and discussions it deals with the status quo and perspectives of research concerned with interaction between people and technology in view of demographic change.
