Professor Dr. Philipp Cimiano to speak with representatives from academia and industry about supporting start-up founders
In a discussion called “The City Needs New Start-Up Founders,” experts from Bielefeld will discuss possibilities for providing greater support to young start-up founders on 7 July 2016 at the University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld. Professor Dr. Philipp Cimiano will point out potential forms of support from the perspective of a research institution. On the podium, Cimiano will join Bielefeld’s mayor Pit Clausen, Professor Dr. Schramm-Wölk (President of the University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld), and Sebastian Borek (Managing Director of the Bertelsmann Founders’ Foundation), along with representatives from various start-up companies. Klaus Schrotthofer, Managing Director of the regional daily newspaper Neue Westfälischen, will moderate the evening’s discussion.
Cimiano heads the Semantic Computing research group in the Faculty of Technology of Bielefeld University and the Cluster of Excellence Cognitive Interaction Technology. In addition to this, he is also dean of the Faculty of Technology and an advisory member of CITEC’s Extended Board. Together with four researchers, he founded the company Semalytix.
Other members of the public will also take part in the discussions, including Martin Knabenreich, Managing Director of Bielefeld Marketing, and representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, Jobcenter, the Wirtschaftsentwicklungsgesellschaft (Economic Development Society), and other start-up founders. The start-up company Maescalin will be represented by Ursula M.-M Moose and Marcia L. Dambowy, and Semalytix by Managing Director Janik Jaskoslki.
The podium discussion is a kick-off to the event series “Bielefeld 2030 – In Search of the Jobs of the Future,” which is being organized by the “Job Market and Economic Policy” task force and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) of Bielefeld.
