CITEC Displaying AMiRo Mini Robot at 2018 FMB Trade Fair

Expert advice and a glimpse into the research at the it’s OWL joint exhibition booth

A small, nimble, and efficient mini robot: the Cluster of Excellence CITEC will be presenting the AMiRo mini robot at the FMB Supplier Show for Mechanical Engineering from 7–9 November in Bad Salzufen, Germany. The mini robot from CITEC is part of the joint exhibition booth of the it’s OWL Technology Network (located in A27, Hall 21). In addition to CITEC, three other research institutions will also be showcasing their range of offerings. Interested companies can also learn more about new opportunities for getting support in digital transformation for the Mittelstand (small and medium-sized companies). A lecture program on 9 November will provide concrete insights into technologies and areas of application.

The AMiRo mini robots, which were developed at CITEC, will be on display at the FMB trade fair in Bad Salzuflen from 7–9 November. Bielefeld University’s Cluster of Excellence CITEC will be exhibiting AMiRo, an autonomous mini robot. Production chains can be designed more efficiently with AMiRO. Made of standard commercial components, the robot is small and nimble and can transport objects weighing up to 1 kilogram. The special thing about AMiRO is that the robot interacts autonomously with its environment, which allows it to maneuver around obstacles and successfully arrive at its destination.

In addition to this, companies can get advice from it’s OWL, OWL GmbH, and the Competence Center for the Mittelstand – “Digital in NRW” regarding the assistance available to them for taking their own steps towards digitalization. The Cognitronics and Sensor Systems research group, which is affiliated with CITEC, as well as the Research Institute for Cognition and Robotics (CoR-Lab) at Bielefeld University work together with the Competence Center to design information offerings and to demonstrate the methods and technologies of Industry 4.0.

The trade fair exhibition will be complemented by the it’s OWL lecture program on 9 November (lecture theater, Hall 21), where an overview of the opportunities, challenges, and areas of application for Industry 4.0 will be provided, as well as forms of support available to companies. In addition to this, experts will provide a glimpse into current research findings, new technologies, and examples of applications in the fields of artificial intelligence and machine learning, Big Data and IT security, smart services, and human-machine interaction.
