CITEC Congratulates Doctoral Researchers on Successful Dissertations

Congratulations to Bettina Lanser and Jan Paskarbeit for their successful dissertation defenses

Bettina Lanser successfully completed her dissertation. @CITEC/Universität Bielefeld On 16 October 2017, Bettina Lanser successfully completed her dissertation titled "Methods for Efficient Ontology Lexicalization for Non-Indo-European Languages: The Case of Japanese.” Her doctoral work was supervised by Professor Dr. Philipp Cimiano (Faculty of Technology, Bielefeld University), Dr. Guadalupe Aguado de Cea (Technical University of Madrid), and Prof. Dr. David Schlangen (Bielefeld University). The goal of her research was to investigate (semi-)automatic methods for the lexicalization of ontologies, pursuing the question of how these can be applied to non-Indo-European languages.

We congratulate CITEC researcher Bettina Lanser on the successful completion of her dissertation!

Jan Paskarbeit and Roboter HECTOR. @CITEC/Universität BielefeldOn 20 October 2017, CITEC researcher Jan Paskarbeit, a member of the “Biomechatronics” research group, successfully completed his dissertation defense. In his doctoral research, Paskarbeit dealt with the topic "Consider the Robot - Abstraction of Bioinspired Leg Coordination and its Application to a Hexapod Robot Under Consideration of Technical Constraints.” Prof. Dr. Axel Schneider (Bielefeld University), Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ralf Möller (Bielefeld University), and Prof. Dr. Hartmut Witte (Technical University Ilmenau) supervised his dissertation.

Jan Paskarbeit investigates the human movement processes of Hector the robot. This robot was modelled on the walking stick insect "Carausius morosus,” and serves as a test platform for biologically inspired approaches to motion control. With novel, self-designed and flexible actuators as leg joints and adaptive leg coordination, HECTOR is able to move around obstacles and reach different targets.

We also extend our warmest congratulations to Jan Paskarbeit on his successful dissertation defense. Best wishes from CITEC!
