Paper accepted for BioRob 2018 in Enschede, Netherlands

The Neuromorphic Behaving Systems Group is proud that the paper "Open-loop Neuromorphic Controller implemented on VLSI Devices" co-authored by Elisabetta Chicca is accepted for publication in the Proceedings of the 7th IEEE RAS/EMBS International Conference on Biomedical Robotics and Biomechatronics (BioRob 2018) in Enschede, Netherlands, 26-29 August, 2018.

The paper deals with the first development of a full-custom spiking neural network VLSI chip interfaced to motors for performing position control. In the scope of an increasing amount of robotic platforms equipped with spiking neuromorphic computing architectures, event-based neuromorphic motor controllers have been missing until now. Here we present an open-loop neuromorphic controller based on biologically inspired principles for pulse frequency modulation techniques instead of traditional pulse width modulation techniques to encode target position and drive the motors.
