Abstract

For a long time, visual field effects in visual attention have been studied. Several studies have revealed a bilateral field advantage in distinct attentional tasks such as discrimination, attentional tracking of multiple visual objects, and covert attention on stationary objects. We proposed that parallel attentional processing across the hemifields is more efficient as both hemispheres are involved. The talk will give an overview of our studies supporting our hypothesis that visual attention parameters covary with hemifield alignment, using a combination of psychophysics, fMRI and the analysis of attention parameters in stroke patients.
