Naoto Hieda (multidisciplinary artist, Japan):

Abstract: 

Before media art has emerged, traditional art and dance are already applying algorithms to make sophisticated patterns in their textures or movements. During one-year residency at Topological Media Lab (Canada) and three-month residency at Seoul Art Space Geumcheon (Korea), Naoto researched the use of algorithm through creation of media installations and dialog with artists, dancers, choreographers and musicians. Naoto also presents his current interest in machine learning and art which potentially exclude (or already excluding) some populations due to the dataset and modality. 

Bio: 

Naoto Hieda is a Japanese multidisciplinary artist. He received Bachelor of Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology (Japan, 2012) and Master of Engineering from McGill University (Canada, 2015). His work focuses on neurodiversity, specifically autism spectrum disorder, and embodied alchemical process integrating new media and contemporary dance. He is a recipient of danceWEB Scholarship (Austria), Pola Art Foundation Fellowship (Japan) and a scholarship from School for Poetic Computation (US).
