This project is an example to extend the modality of home decorative artifact, which is mostly visually driven, to the sonic domain. In this project, a zen garden driven soundscape system is developed. The musical/environmental soundscapes can be created based on the arrangement of the stones and sands. Image information is then capture by a webcam and used for the soundscape parameters. This project can be used in living room scenario to create a sense of environment and general relaxation, or in noisy environment such as open office to provide both visual decoration and interactive soundscape as a means for noise masking. We also found that using a calm ambient soundscape through SoZen is a sonically simulated office environment can improve productivity.
