Multimodal Ambiances
With the smart home technology becoming more and more popular, applications in bathroom is still limited due to several challenges such as humidity, tight space, privacy and so on. These challenges make conventional sensing units (e.g. microphone, camera), and control units (e.g. touch screen, keyboard) difficult to be implemented. The multimodal ambiances provide an example to tackle some of the issues.
In this project, we developed an audiovisual ambient system installed in the bathroom of the CSRA. The objective is to create immersive audiovisual scenarios by combining ambient soundscapes and mood lighting to create emotive and enjoyable atomospheres. A tangible control plate is developed with five RFID tagged object symbolizing different themes. The plate not only serve as a control unit but also as a home decoration.
