  • RoboCup 2011 - the final wrap-up

    The 2011 RoboCup is over, team ToBI safely arrived in Bielefeld and still we can hardly believe that we made it into the final and finished on 5th place this year. If you see one of theToBIs running around in the University please make sure to congratulate them. But what are the lessons learned, what changed in the RoboCup and what is up next?

    Sorry for not writing so long but the internet at the robocup was down almost half a day and we had to take 3 tasks of the stage two. But first things first: We started off today with the "General Purpose Service Robot 2", which is, as the name indicates, similar to the GPSR in stage 1. The robot has to understand complex commands and even ask for clearification if not enough information for solving the task is given. This means that the command can be something like "Go to a room and bring the object to me".

    Good evening from Istanbul! Team ToBI just got back from the Shopping Mall task which, just like last year, was held in a real shopping mall. This includes transporting the robots through Istanbul to the actual mall and back, which is why we are back to the arena so late. Only the best 12 teams proceed to stage two and in this first task of this stage the robots have to build up a map of the store (to which they have never been before) while storing the object positions, like "Green Tea" or "Pringles" and following the guide through the shop.

    Good morning from Istanbul! As some of you may have already heared in the facebook group that one of the team members has created to keep you informed, we have had some problems yesterday. Well, actually they where kind of unrelated to our software: In the Follow Me task we had a walker for the robot that had a very strong accent which was very difficult for the speech recognition. Unfortunately we could not complete the Follow Me since the robot could not understand the walker.
