The Center of Excellence Cognitive Interaction Technology (CITEC) was founded at Bielefeld University in November 2007 within the highly competitive framework of the German Excellence Initiative. It is one of ten central academic institutes of Bielefeld University.
CITEC’s research agenda is organized around four central research areas targetted at key functions of cognitive interactive systems: Motion Intelligence, Attentive Systems, Situated Communication and Memory and Learning. It has a dedicated Graduate School and comprises more than 30 research groups from five Faculties: Biology, Linguistics and Literatury Studies, Mathematics, Psychology and Sports Science, and from the Faculty of Technology.
Following the Excellence Initiative's goal of developing sustainable research structures, CITEC is positioned as the overarching institution that implements Bielefeld University's strategic research area Interactive Intelligent Systems. In this role, CITEC also offers a shared roof to the research groups in the Bielefeld Research Institute for Cognition and Robotics (CoR-Lab) and the DFG Collaborative Research Centre 673 "Alignment in Communication".
Furthermore, CITEC closely collaborates with the Center for interdisciplinary Research (ZiF) at Bielefeld University, which offers room for interdisciplinary exchange at workshops and conferences.
